In a run up to upcoming Assembly polls to be held in the second half of 2017, Gujarat BJP organised a felicitation function of more than 8,000 newly elected Sarpanches in presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj Parshottam Rupala and Gujarat BJP chief Jitu Vaghani at the party’s Gujarat headquarters – Shri Kamalam.

last week around elections of around 10,000 village panchayats were held in the State. After the result came, BJP claimed that at least 80 per cent victorious candidates were supported by the saffron party. On the contrary, Congress leaders said that near 70 per cent candidates were backed by their party.

It was show of strength for the saffron brigade to prove the claim made by the party leaders as well as to make rival party’s claim false. Post demonetization, it was the first major polls as out of the 18,000 village panchayats, 10,000 went to polls. Apart from newly elected Sarpanches nearly 15,000 people assembled at the function.
