The Gujarat Government will hold a special one-day session of the State Assembly on May 9 to ratify the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill, 2017.
“To implement the GST in the State from July 1, we have decided to call this special session to pass the Bill,” Pradeepsinh Jadeja, Minister of State for legislative and Parliamentary Affairs said.
On April 6, the Parliament passed four legislations to pave the way for roll out of GST from July. As the Speaker had not pronounced the last budget session that ended on March 31, 2017, the special sitting would be considered as a continuation of the budget session.
Meanwhile, leader of Opposition in the State Assembly, Shankarsinh Vaghela, has sought a three-day session instead of one-day special session. In a letter addres-
sed to Speaker, Vaghela has sought to discuss issues related to Justice MB Shah panel report on corruption against previous Modi Government in the State, CAG report, situation of drinking water, irrigation, support price to farmers for their farm produce, unemployment amongst youth as well as law and order situation in the State.
