GST still an experiment, time will say whether it's successful or not: KCR

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has said that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) is an experiment and whether it was good or bad, failure or a success only time will tell.

“Even in a country like the United States it had to be withdrawn after introduction”, he told a news conference in Hyderabad on Friday. When asked about the GST’s impact so far he said that it is too early to say whether it is successful or a failure.

On another question about the proposal that States should reduce their taxes on petrol and diesel, he said that the matter should be left to the wisdom of the states.

“I have seen the advice of Dharmendra Pradhan (Petroleum Minister) in this regard. let him first give this advice to the BJP ruled States”, he said.

“If the Central Government wants it they should formally send a proposal to all the States. The. We will think about it”, he said.

KCR said that he did not think that a single or uniform tax on petrol and diesel across the country was possible or acceptable to all the States. “This country is a multi polar country not a uni polar country”, he said.

KCR had convened the press conference to comment on his party’s victory in the Singareni Collieries trade union election.

He thanked the coal miners for their support and confidence in his party.

He announced that the role of the Singareni company will not be confined to only coal but expanded to other sectors.

Bayyram iron ore mines will also be handed over to Singareni, KCR said.

When asked about the possibility of a grand alliance of opposition contesting against TRS in 2019, he welcomed it. “They have already fought as alliance in Singareni  and people have rejected them”, he said.
