lining up the various pre-2020 actions adopted by India, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar called upon the developed countries to present the same and indicate a clear roadmap in this regard prior to the proposed climate change conference in Paris. Addressing the sixth Petersberg Climate Dialogue in Germany, he said on Monday, that the country has launched an ambitious action, targeting 175 GW of renewable energy, and it has received a tremendous response from investors in the form of letter of intents (lOIs) worth more than 200GW of energy.
Architecture for 100 smart cities has been created for clean and green cities. Further, 3,200 severely polluting industries have been instructed to install 24X7 pollution monitoring devices for effluents as well as emissions. Javadekar said that ambitious pre-2020 actions of developed countries will create the carbon space required for the developing world, as every poor person has the right to equitable access to the atmospheric resources. He emphasised that Paris Conference will yield result, if all countries demonstrate their will to tackle the problem of climate change frontally. It is not about sharing of blame or finger-pointing, but acting with wisdom, understanding and cooperation.
