Gujarat unit of Bhartiya Janata Party is preparing for the grand felicitation of the saffron brigade’s national president Amit Shah as he is coming to his home State first time after getting re-elected for the top post of the party.

Amit Shah will be on Gujarat visit for three days starting from Saturday, February 27.

Sources in the Gujarat BJP said that more than 5,000 workers including MlAs, Gujarat MPs and office-bearers of State and district units will attend the felicitation function at BJP’s State head-quarter on the outskirts of Gandhinagar.

On his arrival a welcome function has been organised at the Sardar Patel airport where top leadership of Gujarat BJP will welcome him. At the airport Shah will also address select gathering of BJP workers and then will reach at the state BJP headquarter ‘Shri Kamalam’.

In the the grand function at State BJP head-quarter Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel, newly elected Gujarat BJP president Vijay Rupani, Gujarat BJP in-charge Dinesh Sharma and other leaders will remain present. Shah who is also MlA from Naranpura Assembly constituency in Ahmedabad will address the meeting of BJP workers.

Shah will also address a separate meeting of BJP MlAs in Gujarat. According to sources, the main agenda for the meeting with party’s legislature would be focused on upcoming Assembly elections to be held in later half of the year 2017.

Shah who started his political career as a leader of the student wing of the party - Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in the year 1983 is known as political strategist. In the backdrop of pro-quota agitation of Patidars, BJP had to face big dent in local self-government polls in November last year, especially in rural parts of the state. Shah and newly elected Gujarat BJP president Rupaji are having a huge task to strengthen party’s position in rural Gujarat.

Just like Amit Shah, Rupani too is known for his tremendous organisational skills. It was Rupani who played important role during the 2007 assembly polls in Saurashtra-Kutch region to carve his party’s victory. In that particular assembly election former Gujarat Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel and many other Patel leaders openly came out against the then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
