Govt to set up tribal advisory council

A National Tribal Advisory Council will be set up under chairmanship of the Prime Minister for real time monitoring of various tribal development programmes and schemes in the country. This was announced by Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram while addressing the conference of principal secretaries of tribal welfare from various States on Thursday.

The council will meet once or twice in a year that will review in detail the ground status of implementation of the various tribal schemes in the respective States. The Minister, however, called for effective participation of local communities, for the ultimate success of the various schemes.

“We cannot achieve significant results unless we involve members of society in the implementation process of various schemes. The ongoing conference should have special focus on this issue,” he said.

He pointed out that though there has been significant improvement in terms of infrastructure in education sector but unfortunately the quality of education has not shown similar improvement in tribal belts.
