The Uttar Pradesh Government will release 135 prisoners who failed to clear their financial penalties due to their poor financial condition.
According to reports, there are 135 prisoners who are lodged in jail for a long time due to non-payment of the financial fine imposed on them by the courts.
Minister of State for Prisons (Independent Charge) Dharamveer Prajapati has issued instructions for their release. It is said that it has been decided to release these prisoners on humanitarian grounds. Prajapati has also asked jail officials to consider reciting Gayatri mantra or Mahamrityunjaya mantra in the morning, besides organising discourses and satsangs.
The minister gave these directions during a meeting with the departmental officers on Tuesday. He asked the Prisons department to issue a toll-free number for registering the related complaints. By gradually ending the offline system of meeting the prisoners in jails, he directed the officials to make the meetings online.
While giving instructions for a better system of imparting vocational training to the prisoners, Prajapati said that this would enable the prisoners to make good quality products which would fetch good prices in the market.
The Minister said that any employee related to the Prisons department could meet him anytime and express his views. He asked the officials to promote the use of pottery in the prison department.
He assured to include the suggestions of the officers in the 100-day action plan of the department.
