Amid BJP’s opposition, the Government has embarked on its plans to appoint a Special Director in the CBI with the Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) calling a meeting on Monday to finalise the name for the post.
CVC Pradeep Kumar has called a meeting of Vigilance Commissioners and CBI Director Ranjit Sinha to vet the name of the lone candidate proposed by the Centre. The Department of Personnel and Training has recommended only one name —Prakash Mishra, who is presently the Director General of Police, Odisha. BJP leader Ravishankar Prasad, “What is the rationale behind appointing a CBI Special Director barely 22 days ahead of lok Sabha results.” He wondered if Congress was trying to cover its alleged misdeeds by making appointments at such senior level. The BJP has already opposed proposal for appointment of lokpal and naming the new Army Chief.
