Once the ban on country-made liquor is imposed from April 1 in Bihar and only foreign made liquor would be available on restricted terms only in urban areas, nobody would be allowed to purchase more than one bottle of liquor a day.

This decision was taken on Thursday at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The police and administration is pulling all stops to fully check the smuggling of any liquor from other States.

Excise and prohibition Minister Abdul Jalil Mastan said that the foreign made liquor would be available only at the shops run by the Government and all the outlets would have CCTV camera. There will be no question of any person purchasing more than  one bottle in a day, he added.

The Government has made all preparation to ban the liquor and in the first phase there will be complete ban on country made liquor. Over 6,000 shops, mostly in rural areas, will be shut from March 31. Only in municipal areas, the Government will open limited number of outlets selling foreign made liquor which will be managed by Beverage Corporation.
