Construction of bio-digester public toilets, conversion of Barapullah drain into a green zone, automatic washing machines at dhobi ghats, cleaning and lighting of public buildings and increasing the capacity of parking lots are some of the steps that the Government plans to complete in the next six months to make the national capital a world class city.
The blueprint was finalised on Monday at a meeting chaired by Urban Development Secretary Sudhir Krishna and attended by the top officials of all agencies concerned, Delhi Government and DMRC here following instructions from Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu, who had expressed displeasure at the condition of the capital city.
He had directed the officials concerned to chalk out an action plan to spruce up the metropolis to make it a world class city. “We have finalised a detailed action plan to beautify the city and all agencies concerned have been given responsibilities to do it in a coordinated way,” Krishna told reporters after the meeting.
He said, “Delhi is beautiful and it has a lot of greenery. But we want it to be more beautiful and green. We will ensure that the steps we plan are completed within the next six months. However, the drive will be reviewed every month.”
Krishna said, cleaning of market places will be carried out on regular basis and all unauthorised road side kiosks as well on the Government colonies will be removed. However, he did not elaborate on specifics.
“Steps will also be taken to construct porta cabins for security posts where sand bags are being used as part of the beautification drive,” he said.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been given responsibility to decongest and beautify the entry and exit of Metro stations as well to paint the viaducts inside the station to improve the aesthetic look of the premises.
The Secretary added that vacant spaces, roads and other public utility places would be better managed on a daily basis as priority would be given to cleanliness and maintenance. The Ministry is also rejuvenating and beautifying various water bodies in Delhi and decentralising the solid waste disposal system and incentivising segregation of waste at household level.
