In keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Skilled India' vision, Union Ministry of Science and Technology has launched a major programme aimed at creating skilled manpower in specialised sectors linked to industries at its different laboratories situated across the country.

Initially, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) — country's premier research and development organisation-proposes to launch 30 integrated skill initiatives in diverse areas with varying duration (8 weeks to 52 weeks) at its 38 labs across the country. The courses will be expanded to 75 to mark the Platinum Jubilee year of the CSIR, being celebrated on September 26 here.

The training programme will cater to diverse cross sections of youth beginning with school dropouts to ITI diploma holders to graduates. All these training programmes are linked with industry requirement and thus also linked to employment generation including small scale entrepreneurship, said Science and Technology Minister Harsh Vardhan. He said the move is in line with new initiatives of CSIR which is entering its 75th year next week.
