Govt launches e-trip adviser by IITians

The Government has launched its first interactive travel planning portal — tripigator.com — in partnership with the IT firm WorthYourHolidays on Monday.

The Ministry of Tourism, however, plans to link the travel portal, created by IITians (Indian Institute of Technology), with ‘Incredible India.’

The portal, selected as ‘the official travel planner’ by the Ministry of Tourism, was launched by Tourism Secretary Parvez Dewan. The web engine is aimed to provide all travel itineraries in one tab in order to reduce travelers’ effort.

“This portal would significantly reduce the hassles that usually occur while planning trip in India by opening several tabs in one window. It would provide all relevant information in one tab from destination to flight, hotel to cabs and weather to hot spots,” said Dewan.

All relevant information is integrated into single webpage. 3D views of the destinations would also be added.

“The project is assisted by the Tourism Ministry in providing relevant data on a non-commercial basis. The portal, however, is largely independent and the revenue would be generated through its internal ads,” he said.

“Other travel portal gives you lot of information and content but they never plan for you. At tripigator.com, you just have to come and give your preferences and it would do the rest for you,” said one of its co-founder’s Mukul Garg,

“The entire project is based on freemium basis and there is no cost involved. It is getting no funding from the ministry. In future we might explore revenue streams from advertisement in order to lead generation model,” he added.
