Aiming to reward the meritorious, the Centre has introduced a series of incentives for the Government employees. These include an annual award of ‘Certificate of Excellence’ and a monthly award for Employee of the Month for Under Secretary and below level.
The concept of ‘mentor’ for newcomers has been introduced, too. The DoPT had also initiated steps for employees’ interaction with Minister of State for Personnel, appointment of grievance redressal officers in each division, and installation of ‘ idea boxes’ in the department for soliciting ‘out of the box’ solutions to various issues.
In this regard, the Centre has asked all departments to take new initiatives to boost morale of their employees. “Realising that recognition of meritorious performance of employees is a critical tool in human resource management, a new non-monetary incentive in the form of an annual award of Certificate of Excellence to recognise the contribution of its meritorious employees of the level of Under Secretary and below has been introduced,” said the communication.
In addition to these steps to acknowledge the diligence of government employees, a process of mentoring of each ‘newcomer’ with a view to sensitise the incumbent about the various work done in the department has also been introduced. The DoPT order also highlighted training plan for the employees of the same segment and below as measure to encourage work forces’ morale.
Subsequently, another monthly non-monetary incentive was introduced wherein one employee from across all categories of employees of the level of Under Secretary and below is to be designated as ‘Employee of the Month’. The awardee will be given a certificate and his photograph be displayed under the relevant link in the intra-departmental (employee) portal, said the DoPT directive.
