Taking notes of the Ministry of Health’s order in February this year, in which all of its 23 Government hospitals had been asked to use only Khadi products, lady Hardinge Medical College and Sucheta Kriplani Hospital have placed orders of khadi products with the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).
In February this year, the Ministry of Health February had issued an order asking all its 23 Government hospitals to optimise the use of khadi products.
The KVIC Chairman Vinai Kumar Saxena said the Health Ministry’s order not only covers Government hospitals but also Medical research institutions such as AIIMS, PGIMER, NIMHANS, AIIHPH and others to buy Khadi products only.
“As soon as the Ministry of Health set up a panel to look into ways to promote use of Khadi in State-owned hospitals, under the chairmanship of Directorate General of Health Services, BD Athani, we were asked to submit the samples of all the items approved. And, since our products were found at par, orders now have started floating. It is the first bulk order of Rs 33 lakh for us from any Government hospital, Saxena said.
“Adopting Khadi for hospitals and their staff, is a significant symbol of Khadi being the most natural and organic skin friendly fabric. Not only that, this order will also put a compounding effect of livelihood support it gives to Khadi artisans,” Saxena said.
Saxena also thanked Union Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu for the Indian Railways decision to use Khadi products and placing an order of nearly Rs 42 crore recently.
