The Union Health Ministry has constituted 5-member search panel to recommend names for the newly established National Medical Commission (NMC) which is going to replace the Medical Council of India.
The Ministry recently issued a notification in this regard. Dr Pankaj Chaturvedi, Oncologist from Tata Memorial Hospital, Dr Renu Swarup, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology (DBT) in the Union Science and Technology Ministry, Ajay Kumar Khanna, elected member of the Uttarakhand Medical Council, Dr D Nageshwar Reddy, gastroenterologist, Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, Hyderabad, Telangana have been nominated for the search panel.
Cabinet Secretary will be the chairperson and Union Health Secretary will be the convenor of the panel.
The search panel will suggest the names for the chairperson and the members of the NMC which has been set up after the passage of a Bill in the Parliament a few months ago. The NMC will be 33 members body.
