In a move to provide temporary accommodation to Ram Nath Kovind, NDA candidate for the Presidential post, Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu has asked the Ministry to explore possibilities of providing temporary accommodation to Kovind.
Sources in the Ministry said that Naidu has asked officials to explore whether an accommodation could be provided to Kovind. The Minister has categorically stated that officials should keep in mind that there should not be any violation of model code of conduct while providing accommodation to him. Naidu has also asked officers to check whether the Ministry/Government has provided accommodation to the Presidential candidate for time being.
Officials say the Government had provided temporary accommodation to Pratibha Devi Singh Patil in South Avenue during her Presidential polls when she resigned from the post of Governor and came to Delhi after Congress made her Presidential candidate. Kovind would have to stay in Delhi during campaigning.
According to officials, the Minister has made it clear that the accommodation would be provided if the rules permitted.
