Govt constantly shifting goalpost, say veterans

Published on:

As impasse continues over ‘One Rank, One Pension’ (OROP) issue, agitating veterans on Thursday accused the Government of “constantly shifting goalpost” and not coming out with any “concrete proposal”.

Ex-servicemen are protesting for the last 82 days demanding implementation of OROP and reports indicated that the Government may announce it before the Election Commission announces the Bihar Assembly poll schedule this weekend. RSS had also urged the Government on Wednesday to find an early resolution to the OROP issue during talks with BJP leadership here. A group of ex-servicemen also met Army chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag here on Thursday regarding the issue. Suhag has met them a few times in the last one month to find a solution to vexed issue.

Alleging that some sections in the Government were giving misleading figures about financial ramifications of OROP, Anil Kaul, media adviser to the United Front of Ex-Servicemen said if the Government unilaterally announces OROP as per its own conditions, “we will not accept it if it is against the agreed definition of OROP.”
