The Government has assured the envoys of African countries that strict action will be taken against those involved in violence against the three youths from Gabon and Burkina Faso.
The ambassadors of Gabon and Burkina Faso have written to the Ministry of External Affairs seeking probe into the mob violence on three African students — Mapaga, Yohan (both Gabon) and Guira (Burkina Faso) at New Delhi’s Rajeev Chowk Metro station last Sunday.
The MEA has responded to the envoys saying it will share the police investigation report with them while assuring that there was zero-tolerance against racism and targeting of any particular nationality.
“We have received a communication from the African envoys. We have assured them that there is zero-tolerance against any kind of targeting nationals. And police was probing the matter and necessary action will be taken in this regard,” MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said.
The three youth have suffered injuries in their head and legs. Worse was that while the mob beat these African men, none came forward to intervene or rescue. In fact, indifferent onlookers were more interested in capturing the act on mobiles than calling police. The Delhi Police has registered a case of rioting, causing hurt and damage to public property.
