Gold trader robbed of valuables worth Rs 2 cr

A gold jewellery wholesaler was allegedly robbed of jewellery worth Rs 2 crore and Rs 3 lakh cash at gunpoint by five unidentified assailants in East Delhi’s Geeta Colony area on Sunday.

The 52-year-old businessman, Rajesh Kumar, was on his way home from his store in Chandni Chowk, when his car was intercepted by another car and the incident occurred as soon as they crossed the Geeta Colony flyover.

According to the police, “Five unidentified men intercepted the car, came out and knocked at the driver’s window. When the driver refused, one of them smashed the glass window.” The men then pulled him out of the car and one of them whipped out a pistol and held it close to his temple.

“While one of them got the bag carrying cash out from the rear seat, the other took out the bag with gold jewellery and some raw ornaments. The men then allegedly punched the businessman and before he could raise an alarm, the four assailants drove off,” a senior police officer said.

While the police have registered a case of robbery, they have also appointed a team to nab the culprits. Police suspects the involvement of an insider as the assailants were aware of the entire sequence of events.
