Attacking the alliance between the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and BJP ahead of the forthcoming Assam Assembly polls, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday said that the regional political party has sacrificed its regional interest for selfish gains and added that the alliance is not going to impact the prospect of the Congress.
“There should be a base for any kinds of political alliance. However, in the alliance between the AGP and BJP there is no such basis. The two parties has different ideological and there is no common minimum programme between them. How can there be an alliance without a common minimum programmeIJ” Gogoi said while interacting with the newsmen today.
“The AGP leader and former Assam Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta has recently said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not been able to work for the interest of Assam and that Modi has failed to deliver for Assam. If that is true how can they have an alliance with the BJPIJ” Gogoi said adding that the AGP has sacrificed the regional interests for their own petty selfish gains.
“Both AGP and BJP are hungry for grabbing power in the State and that is the reason why they have forged the alliance. Their main objective is to grab power in Assam,” he said adding that AGP has not been serving any regional interest.
Gogoi said that the alliance is not going to affect the prospect of the Congress in the polls rather it will help the ruling party. Gogoi also raked up the issue of ‘secret killing’ that took place during the term of Prafulla Kumar Mahanta as Chief Minister and said that Congress is also going to highlight the secret killing as one of the issues this election.
“I admit that my Government has failed to nail the culprits behind the secret killing but the secret killing is a fact. If he (Mahanta) was not involved in the secret killing why don’t he challenge the KN Saikia reportIJ Why don’t he file defamation against me for repeatedly telling about his involvement in the secret killingsIJ Gogoi said.
The Assam Chief Minister also attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that the ruling party will fight in the forthcoming polls against the wrong policies and injustice of the Central government towards Assam and other parts of the northeast.
“Our fight in the April polls is going to be against the wrong policies of the BJP led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi against Assam and the injustice meted out to the State and other part of the region,” said Gogoi while accusing the BJP lok Sabha MPs from Assam for failing to take up the issues of the state and the region before the Central government.
Gogoi said that the Congress will also tell the people of Assam that only the Congress has the capability to fight against the injustice meted out to the people of Assam by the BJP led Central Government.
