Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has released a handbook on Wednesday to make people aware about the U-turn of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government at the Centre on its pre-poll promises and said that the saffron party has made U-turns in all its pre-poll commitments. The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) prepared the 31-page booklet and it contained all the promises and commitments made by the BJP ahead of the lok Sabha polls including the party’s commitment on black money hoarded in foreign banks to the Bangladeshi immigration issue to the issue of hike of railway fares and etc and the party’s stand on those issues now, which are contradictory and opposing.
“They (BJP) have said that not a single illegal infiltrator will be allowed to stay here once their party comes to power. The party leaders have even set a deadline of May 17 for the Bangladeshis living in Assam to leave the State. However, nothing changed but the BJP has now stopped talking on the Bangladeshi issue,” said Gogoi.
“They (BJP) had claimed that they would bring back the black money hoarded illegally in foreign banks and distribute it among each Indian citizen with Rs15 lakh each. However, more than six months have passed after the BJP formed the Government at the Centre but not a single rupee have been brought back,” Gogoi said.
“The BJP criticised the UPA Government when they had increased the railway fares in 2012. However, the NDA Government after coming to the power hiked the railway passenger fare by 14.2 percent and freight fare by 6.5 percent. The recent hike is, however, the highest in recent times,” Gogoi pointed out. “Similarly, veteran BJP leader and present Home Minister Rajnath Singh had said that the construction of lower Subansiri Hydropower Project would not be allowed at any cost due to its environmental impact on downstream areas like Assam. However, now after coming to power the BJP is trying their best to start the construction of the 2,000 MW mega power project,” he said.
Gogoi further slammed the NDA Government for keeping on hold the implementation of the Food security Act in Assam on the ground of non digitisation of the beneficiaries’ names and said that this is a violation of basic right of the poor people. He also slammed the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Government for decreasing the allowance and sanctions by the Central Government to the State and said that the State has been receiving less amounts than sanctioned by the erstwhile UPA Government on different Central schemes.
