Goa waits eagerly for controversy king Diggy

You may love him or hate him. But Goa’s just got him.

The appointment of the often controversy-prone Congressman Digvijay Singh as general secretary of three States, including Goa, has already sparked off banter, in both virtual as well as the political circles here.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vice-president Wilfred Mesquita told The Pioneer that the party was only waiting to see how “loud-mouthed” Singh was going to be in his new stint as Congress high command’s go-to man in Goa.

“Digvijay Singh is known to be loud-mouthed. We hope, when he comes to Goa, he opens his mouth very wide. But he has to ensure that flies do not get in. It is monsoon time here and there are a lot of flies about,” Mesquita said, reacting to Singh’s appointment on Sunday.

Singh, a former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, has in the past spun many a mini-tornados in the media sometimes by referring to slain terror mastermind Osama bin laden as ‘Osama ji’ and accusing the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh of being part of the 26/11 Mumbai terror strikes, forcing the Opposition to call his charges outlandish and bizarre.

The 66-year-old has now been tasked with looking after Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Goa. While Congress is in power in the two mammoth States, in tiny Goa however, the party and its key State leadership appear to have simply vanished after a thumping defeat in the 2012 polls.
