Goa Governor addresses State Assembly amid Cong protests

Even as the Opposition staged a walkout alleging “murder of the Constitution” by Raj Bhavan, Goa Governor Dr Mridula Sinha in her address to the State legislative Assembly, has said that the coastal State would be open defecation free by 2019.

Even as Sinha rose to deliver her address to the first session of the Seventh legislative Assembly, Opposition MlAs from the Congress who were seen wearing black bands on their shoulders, raised slogans of protest, accusing her of murdering democracy by not inviting the Congress to form a Government in the State, despite the party having emerged as the single largest party with 17 seats in the February 4 assembly elections.

After staging the walkout, Opposition leader Babu Kavlekar told reporters that the objective of the protests and walkout was to let Sinha know, that she had failed the Indian Constitution and acted as the agent of the Centre.

“Sinha has been biased in favour of the BJP. She has ripped apart the Indian Constitution with her actions,” Kavlekar said.
