Go, advise Taliban: Adhikari to Amartya

Days after Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen backed Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s claim to Prime Ministership, State Opposition Leader Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday slammed the Shantiniketan-groomed economist for his alleged “hidden agenda” and “politically biased” statements and advised him to go abroad and take rest.

Speaking on Sen’s views Adhikari said “he (Sen) should now go abroad and take rest … he is giving politically biased statements now but where was he during the pandemic when the people of the country were dying … where was he when the BJP workers in Bengal were attacked and murdered after the 2021 Assembly elections

“And now he has come to issue politically biased opinions ... he does not seem to be speaking like an economist or an academic … he is speaking like a politician with a hidden agenda … no one needs his advice here … he should better go and advise the Taliban Government or for that matter Zelenski instead of making politically biased predictions.”

Much to the joy of the Trinamool Congress leadership while speaking to a news agency about Mamata Banerjee’s chances to become India’s Prime Minister, a few days ago said that Banerjee was quite capable of being one.

"It's not that she does not have the ability to do it. She clearly has the ability. On the other hand, it's yet not established that Mamata can pull the forces of public dismay against the BJP in an integrated way to make it possible for her to have the leadership to put an end to the fractionalisation in India," he said even as the TMC supremo immediately lapped up the statement saying Sen’s views were like a command to her.

“Amartya Sen is a world-class scholar … of our pride. His observations guide us. His advice is a command for us. His observation and assessment of the current situation in the country should be taken seriously by all,” Banerjee said later said adding Sen was aware of the importance of regional parties in different states, which was why he wanted to raise awareness in this regard with his speech.
