In the Gulbarg society fund embezzlement case, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch officials found glaring evidence against social activist Teesta Setalvad during the investigation.
As per the Crime Branch officials, Teesta’s Sabrang trust had paid air tickets, food, local taxi and other expenses to John Dayal, Harsh Mander and Amarjeet Singh Narang. Interestingly, these expenses were debited to Secular Education Account of Sabrang trust.
Jhon Dayal and Harsh Mander are regularly coming on different television channels to support Teesta Setalvad. Recently, Mander was quoted as saying that Setalvad is being hounded by Gujarat Government for her support to riot victims.
During the verification of Sabrang trust’s vouchers the Crime Branch officials found that Dayal, Mander and Narang are regularly getting payment from Sabrang Trust. “Voucher no 223 dated January 2, 2013 of Sabrang Trust FCRA shows that `1500 had been received by Dayal towards reimbursement of airport transfer expenses from Delhi and Mumbai. Another voucher of January 21, 2013 shows that `1500 out of pocket expenses of three guests from Delhi — Dayal, Harsh Mander and Narang,” informed the sources.
According to the sources, payment ledger of Sabrang trust indicates an amount of `11,579 was paid to Teesta Setalvad towards reimbursement of air tickets booked for Dayal from Delhi to Mumbai. “This analysis is based on only few months’ vouchers,” said the sources, adding that from these payments it is proved beyond doubt that Dayal and Mander are paid supporters of Teesta Setalvad.
“Teesta Setalvad has not given complete documents of her both the NGOs — Sabrang Trust and CJP till date. This raises a serious question about the credibility of such activists which are shouting from the top in her support,” the sources said, adding that this is some of the few examples of how the funds collected for the riot victims were utilised by Setalavd to garner support for her. Not only that, these all vouchers were approved by none other than Teesta’s husband Javed Anand.
