A two-year-old controversial clip featuring sacked BSF jawan Tej Bahadur Yadav purportedly claiming to kill Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a sum Rs 50 crore surfaced on the social media on Monday “shocking” the BJP which highlighted how mainstream political parties were embracing such a person.
Yadav was fielded by the Samajwadi Party as a Lok Sabha candidate from Varanasi constituency against Modi. However, his candidature was cancelled as he was dismissed from service.
Reacting to the development, BJP leader GVL Narasimha Rao said, “It is very shocking that yet another conspiracy to assassinate the Prime Minister has come to light by someone who was drafted as a Lok Sabha candidate against the PM in Varanasi by the Samajwadi Party. In a stunning video, Tej Bahadur Yadav is heard asking for Rs 50 crore to assassinate Modi.”
Rao alleged that Tej Bahadur is also seen accepting that he has links with terror outfits like Hizbul Mujahidden and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). He said the BJP requested all democratically spirited individuals, institutions and political parties to condemn such violent plans in an unequivocal manner. “We condemn it, we expect all agencies to take note of this threat,” Rao said.
The EC rejected Yadav’s nomination as he was unable to submit a certificate to affirm that he had not been sacked for either corruption or disloyalty during the last five years. Yadav has now approached the Supreme Court terming the poll panel’s decision as discriminatory and unreasonable and sought reversal of the poll panel’s decision in order to aallow him to contest the elections.
Yadav was dismissed from BSF in 2017 after he posted a video on social media complaining about the quality of food served to the troops.Yadav had a track record of indiscipline while in service in the BSF and was punished for such lapses earlier.
