An 18-year-old girl student was shot dead and her friend was injured by an office attender of a private college in Bengaluru on late Tuesday night. According to Bengaluru police the man, identified as Mahesh, was arrested on Wednesday, who allegedly shot dead Gautami at Pragathi college at Kadugodi, on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Police said Mahesh had barged into the hostel room, where two girls resided, and opened fire. Gautami died on the spot while her friend was badly injured.
The injured girl is out of danger and is being treated at a private hospital here, Bengaluru Police Commissioner MN Reddi told reporters. A senior doctor at the hospital said the victim’s friend suffered a bullet injury on her face which requires surgery but her condition is stable. Reddi said Mahesh was working with the college for the last two years and the correct motive behind the killing is not yet known.
Police suspect the accused is a jilted lover. One bullet hit Gautami’s mouth while another hit her on the head. Her friend Shirisha sustained injuries after one of the bullets brushed past her left ear.
