Mussoorie MlA Ganesh Joshi of the BJP and the Mussoorie municipality chairman Manmohan Mall of the Congress had a tussle with each other in order to be the one to unfurl the national flag at Mussoorie on Independence Day.
The tussle which happened in full public view saw a small girl hoisting the tricolour as both the politicians were reluctant to allow the other one to do this. The people of Mussoorie had gathered for the flag hoisting at Gandhi Chowk when an argument sparked off a tussle between the two. The altercation lasted for sometime while people tried to make the two politicians desist from creating a scene.
After the futile tussle, a little girl was made to pull the string for unfurling the national flag. later, Joshi told the media that the previous Mussoorie MlA from the Congress had hoisted the national flag on such occasions so he was simply following tradition. “The incident was unfortunate but I am not a weak legislator and will not tolerate injustice simply because our Government is not in power,” said Joshi after the incident. Mall too expressed regret after the incident but stressed that he had done nothing wrong. “Those responsible for causing the altercation will be brought to book,” he averred.
Meanwhile, a BJP delegation led by former Assembly Speaker and present MlA Harbans Kapur met the Chief Secretary and demanded that Mall be removed from his post.
