In yet another act of barbarism, a Class VIII girl was reportedly gang-raped and burnt to death in the Barchana police limits in Jajpur district late on Tuesday night. The incident has sent shock waves in the area.
While the girl’s father stays outside the State, her mother was on a visit to her parents’ home on the fateful day, leaving her in the custody of her grandmother. Villagers alleged that the miscreants committed the heinous crime taking advantage of the fact that the girl’s house is located at a little distance from the village and she was staying with only her old grandmother for company.
Reports said that finding the girl alone, the miscreants forcibly took her away to a nearby field and then gang-raped her. Apprehensive of being identified, they allegedly burnt the girl to death while she had fallen unconscious after being raped.Some people found the girl’s body lying in the field and cremated it the same night. The culprits, on the other hand, are spreading misinformation that the girl’s death was caused due to heart failure while some say her death was due to snakebite. But no one is able to explain how she got burnt.
