In yet another incident of crime against women, a German girl (18) was raped by a youth from Bihar on January 10 in a moving train plying between Mangalore and Chennai. The girl, a volunteer of an NGO working in coastal Karnataka had boarded the West Coast Express from Mangalore with an RAC ticket.

Since there was no berth, she had to share one of the berths in the three-tier compartment with a 22-year-old carpenter from Bihar working in Chennai. It is reported that the girl was raped by the carpenter while she was asleep.

On Monday, the girl approached the Government Railway Police in Chennai accompanied by an official of the German Consulate General and lodged a complaint. She said she was too scared to shout for help when the man made advances.

Seema Aggarwal, Inspector General of Police, GRP, told reporters that the youth was arrested following the identification by the girl. “We picked up the youth within 24 hours.  He is under police custody and we will conduct an identification parade before remanding him in judicial custody,” said Aggarwal.
