General VK Singh, who took charge as Minister of Statistics & Programme Implementation (Independent charge) on Monday, held a meeting of officers asking them to expedite all survey activities.
“Soon after taking charge this evening, he held meetings with officials of the Ministry and discussed the way forward for making the functioning of the Ministry more effective,” an official statement said.
Singh replaced Rao Inderjit Singh in the Ministry. He will continue to be Minister of State in both External Affairs and Overseas Indian Affairs Ministries. The former General was in-charge of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) but has been replaced by Jitender Singh. A former Army chief, Gen VK Singh had won the Ghaziabad seat in UP defeating Raj Babbar of Congress in the lok Sabha elections.
