Gelatin sticks on Naidu's route cause panic

Published on:

Recovery of explosive gelatin sticks on route which the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister M Chandrababu Naidu was to take in Anantapur district created a major stir among the police and security personnel.

The gelatin sticks were found on Wednesday during the routine search by the police team on Puttaparthi-Bukkapatanam road in Anantapur ahead of Naidu's visit.

later investigations revealed that the gelatin sticks were brought for blasting of rocks for a nearby irrigation project but as they had become dysfunctional they were dumped on the roadside.

The police have booked a case of negligence against the contractor and investigating.

Naidu's security has already been tightened in view of the recent intelligence warning that the Maoists were trying to target him. Meanwhile Andhra Pradesh Director General of police Sambasiva Rao said that the police had succeeded in bringing the Maoist problem under control.

“We are not looking at the Maoist problem only as a law and order issue. It is also a social problem,” he told the media in Guntur on Wednesday. He urged the Maoists to change their mindset and realise that hundreds of years old ideology can not hold true forever. .
