Gangster-turned-realtor shot dead in his office

A 45-year-old gangster-turned-property dealer, Khalil Ahmad alias Mama, was shot dead at his office in north Delhi’s lahori Gate on Wednesday. Five men barged in and opened fire, also injuring an assistant at the office.

Khalil was a close aide of Dawood Ibrahim and had more than 34 cases of murder, attempt to murder, extortion, kidnapping and other heinous crime against him.

“Around 11 pm, he closed his office in Khari Baoli area of Chandni Chowk and was getting ready to go home to Nizamuddin. But he was killed,” said a senior police officer said.

Police said Khalil was struck by six bullets while his assistant was hurt in his leg. A passerby made a PCR call. “The victims were taken to St Stephen’s Hospital where Khalil was declared brought dead, while his associate is recuperating,” the officer added. Preliminary investigation revealed that the reason behind the attack is personal enmity. He was involved in criminal activities since 1985.

In 2007, Delhi Police booked Khalil under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) sections for running a crime syndicate. However, the section was withdrawn by Delhi High Court in 2009, after police failed to prove his organised crime syndicate.
