CBI probe sought into Unnao incident

Denying any foul play into the recovery of over 100 bodies in River Ganga at Unnao, Governor Ram Naik has termed it as ‘serious’ and called for a thorough probe into the incident. The political parties also joined hands with the Governor with BSP demanding a probe by Central Bureau of Investigation while the Congress advocating a judicial probe by a sitting High Court judge.

“It’s probably the first such case. It’s a serious matter and the State Government should probe it,” Governor Naik said on the sidelines of a programme in lucknow on Wednesday. BJP leader and local MP Sakshi Maharaj, who visited the site on Wednesday night, said that it should be probed from where such a large number of bodies came. “It is the responsibility of the State Government that it should be probed, but it is ignoring its responsibility,” Sakshi said. He questioned that why no representative or Minister of the Government came to the spot. “Post mortem of all the bodies should be conducted and inquiry should be launched by CBI or any other (investigating agency),” he added.

Demanding a CBI probe into the above matter, Bahuan Samaj Party(BSP) supremo Mayawati alleged that BJP and the ruling Samajwadi Party are hand in glove in Uttar Pradesh as both parties are having a ‘sweet relationship’.

Don’t play politics over dead bodies: BJP

Hitting out at senior Minister Md Azam Khan the State unit of BJP said that the Minister should not play politics over dead bodies and if any BJP member was found involved in the recovery of bodies in the Ganga, action would be taken against them. “The Samajwadi Party Government is making a mockery of dead bodies found floating in the Ganga near Unnao. On one hand, these have been given a brutal burial using JCBs while on the other, politics is being played with this issue,” BJP State president laxmikant Bajpayi said in a statement issued here on Thursday.

He said that the Minister who claimed to had used money from Dawood Ibrahim and militant organisations to celebrate Mulayam Singh Yadav’s birthday has no decency to show respect towards the dead. “The Samajwadi Party should clarify whether it ascribes to the view points of Md Azam Khan. And if not, action should be taken against him,” he said.

Fresh trouble brews for Sakshi Maharaj

Stirring a new controversy a senior Minister in the Uttar Pradesh Government Md Azam Khan held Unnao MP Shakshi Maharaj responsible for recovery of such a large number of dead bodies from Ganga saying BJP leader had thrown those bodies in river to create communal disturbance. ‘Sakshi Maharaj brought these bodies in trucks to Unnao and threw them in Ganga to create communal disturbances,’ Khan said in a statement here on Thursday.

Khan, who is also the Muslim face of the party, said that BJP was trying to malign the image of the Samajwadi Party Government hence its leader has thrown the bodies in the river. “There is a political design behind this motive. The BJP wants to foment communal hatred for political gains,” Khan said and added: “Shakshi Maharaj should tell people from where he got such a large number of bodies.

Nothing suspicious in the deaths: Chief Secy

Ruling our probe into the recovery of bodies in Ganga near Unnao, Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan said that there was nothing suspicious in the deaths and Government has not received any request from any quarter for any probe. “There is no need of any probe as the reports from the Unnao authorities have not expressed any suspicion on the recovery of the bodies,” he told The Pioneer here on Thursday.

Chief secretary’s clarification came on a day when senior Samajwadi Party Minister Md Azam Khan had blamed Unnao’s BJP MP Shakshi Mahraj for transporting these bodies in a truck and throwing them in Ganga to foment communal hatred.
