The repair work of the damaged ghat stairs of river Ganga will be completed before the forthcoming Dev Deepawali, one of the biggest festivals of this holy city.
This information was given by the Additional Municipal Commissioner.
According to the senior Nagar Nigam officer, like every year, the work of silt cleaning through pressure pumps is progressing at a fast pace on all the ghats of river Ganga.
Regarding the damaged stairs, he said that all the ghats will be inspected to list them for ghat-wise repair work.
He said that after the completion of cleaning work, the repair work of the ghat stairs will be completed before the festival of Dev Deepawali.
Meanwhile, Executive Engineer, Public Works Department (Provincial Division), while giving information regarding the Riverfront Development Project, said that the matter has been sent to the government for determining the tender for the work and after receiving the instructions, the tender process will be started.
Besides, the Executive Engineer of Jal Nigam (Urban) said that the sewer lines for sewage disposal constructed on the ghats located on the banks of river Ganga get submerged every year during the flood of the river in the rainy season and due to this, silt and sand enter the sewer lines and block the sewer flow.
He said that after the rainy season, when the water level of river Ganga decreases, extensive cleaning of these sewer lines is done.
At present the water level of river Ganga has reduced and cleaning of sewer lines has been started, which is likely to take about 20 days. After cleaning, the sewerage problem of all the ghats will end, he claimed.
