Enraged over constant taunts for not getting married, a 32-year-old woman murdered her sister-in-law. She first forced her sister-in-law to drink phenyl and then strangled her to death.
The ghastly murder took place in Northwest Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar area and the deceased has been identified as Seema. Accused woman Sunita was arrested.
Confirming the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Aslam Khan said, “The incident was reported on Thursday evening and by Friday night, we have nabbed the accused. On the evening of February 28, Seema (35) was found lying unconscious on the floor of her residence with a saree tied around her neck. Seema was first seen by her husband, Mukesh after which he informed the police. The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead,” said the DCP.
The officer added, “On searching the crime scene, we found a note left behind by Sunita (32), sister-in-law of Seema, which stated that she is leaving the house and no one should look for her. At the same time, the doctors, in the preliminary autopsy, informed us that traces of phenyl were found inside the body of Seema.
The police teams questioned the family members and neighbours of Seema and found that Seema used to often taunt Sunita for not getting married.
Seema had been married to Mukesh for the past ten years and since she moved in with him, Sunita has been living with them. Seema is survived by her four year old daughter and six month old son.
As a concerned family member, Seema used to ask Sunita to accept one of the marriage proposals.
“On Thursday, two days before Holi, Seema got into a heated argument with Sunita over the same issue. Following which Sunita got a bottle of phenyl and forced fed it to Seema. Once Seema became unconscious, she took a saree from Seema’s closet and tied it around her neck. After which, Sunita fled. When Seema’s husband returned home, he saw his wife unconscious,” said the officer.
On Friday, based on the questioning of Sunita’s family members, four to five places were raided by the police teams and at night, Sunita was found hiding at her friend’s residence in Mukundpur slums.
