The hike in petrol and diesel prices was a "gift" by Narendra Modi Government to the people on its first anniversary, the Congress said in caustic remarks on Friday.
Congress spokesperson RPN Singh said, "It is a gift by the Modi Government on the occasion of its first anniversary. More will follow." The Modi Government is nearing the completion of one year in office on May 26.
Singh was reacting to a hike of `3.13 a litre on petrol and `2.71 per litre on diesel from midnight in the second straight steep increase in rates this month. After the latest hike, petrol will cost `66.29 in Delhi.
AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa also slammed the BJP-led NDA Government for following the fuel policy adopted by the previous Congress Government and asked it to rollback the increase in fuel prices.
“The Central Government is following the wrong fuel policy adopted by the previous Congress Government. Due to this, there is an uncertainty in the pricing of essential commodities,” Jayalalithaa said in a statement here.
