The Supreme Court on Monday refused to step into the contentious issues of constant disruptions ailing Parliament and the stir by FTII Pune students as it dismissed separate PIls on the issues.
Dealing with a PIl by NGO Janshruti that alleged constant disruptions in Parliament to be a “grave disorder” meriting suspension of members under the Rules of Business, the petitioner sought guidelines to be framed in order to prevent misuse of public funds.
Advocate Rudrajyoti Nath Ray argued that this should not be seen as interference with Parliament’s jurisdiction but as an attempt to ensure smooth running of the House by managing the exercise of power by the members. The bench of Chief Justice Hl Dattu and Justice Amitava Roy declined to entertain the petition. Next, the Bench heard a petition by advocate Vineet Dhanda for Court orders to end the ongoing stir by students of FTII Pune who have opposed the Centre’s choice to install Gajendra Chauhan as the institute’s Chairman.
