Even as Principal Secretary (Home) Debashish Panda and DGP Sulkhan Singh visited Saharanpur to streamline the police and ensure no similar recurrence, violence once again broke out on Tuesday.
Members of the Dalit community under the banner of Bhim Army clashed with police in the city and Rampur Maniharan area and torched a police outpost and several police and other vehicles.
SSP, Subhash Chandra Dubey, who has been camping on the troubled spot along with District Magistrate NP Singh, said, “Additional forces have been rushed to the area while several people have been detained for indulging in violence. Besides, a dozen injured were shifted to a hospital.”
On Tuesday, agitated workers of Bhim Army gathered at Ramnagar area to protest the recent torching of their huts by Thakurs in Shabbirpur and demand compensation. later, the local cops reached the spot and asked the protesters to leave as they had no permission to ‘protest’. This resulted in heated arguments and as the cops resorted to using force to disperse the crowd, the agitators retaliated by pelting stones.
