Close on the heels of a court order asking him to vacate a duplex flat in Oberoi Sky Garden apartment at Andheri within two months, Pakistani singer Adnan Sami has found himself in a fresh spot of bother, with the Bombay High Court directing him to hand over his passport to the Mumbai police probing a harassment case filed by his ex-wife Sabah Galadari.
Hearing Sabah’s plea that the popular singer-cum-musician was not complying with the high court’s May 2009 order granting him anticipatory bail in the harassment case, Justice RP Sondurbaldota on Wednesday asked Sami to hand over his passport to the investigating officer immediately. Arguing on Sabah’s behalf, her lawyers Mahesh Jethmalani and Edith Dey told the high court that there was violation of the high court’s 2009 order in the absence of anyone who could stand surety for Adnan now.
Adnan’s lawyer told the high court that the singer could not appear before owing to his ill-health. Adnan had recently sought permission of the high court to go abroad to perform shows. The court asked him to give details of the shows, which he has yet to submit. The matter is pending and will be heard on December 23.
Justice Sondurbaldota’s order asking Adnan to surrender his passport comes less than a week after the high court directed him to vacate the five-in-one duplex flat in Oberoi Sky Garden apartment at lokhandwala Complex at Andheri in north-west Mumbai within two months to facilitate the entry of Sabah who claimed it was her matrimonial home. Adnan currently stays with his third wife Roya Faribi in this five-in-one duplex flat.
