Prime accused of the October 30 serial blasts of 2008 in Assam and chief of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) Ranjan Daimary on Sunday walked out free from the Guwahati Central Jail.

The freedom to the jailed NDFB leader came on Sunday after a Tada court and a Sessions court had on Tuesday last granted bail to Daimary in five cases and set the stage for him to walk free.

One of the prime accused in the serial blasts that rocked four districts of Assam on October 30 in 2008, Daimary had been languishing in various jails of the State since mid 2010- after he was arrested in Bangladesh and subsequently handed over to Indian authorities the same year. The serial blasts in 2008, that took place in four districts of Assam simultaneously killed 98 persons and injured over 500 others.

“I thank those people who had been behind this whole development all these years. This is a good occasion and I shall continue to work for the betterment of Bodo community for the rest of my life,” Daimary said while briefly interacting with the media in front of the jail in Guwahati.

Daimary’s advocate Manas Sarania, however, informed that the court had imposed certain conditions against the bail-Daimary has to obtain prior permission before leaving Assam and that he would regularly attend the court during hearing of his cases.

Daimary had also been asked to surrender his passport and driving license to the court, Sarania said adding that the court had also asked him not to hold any public rally and that he should not involve in any anti-national activities or act.

Sarania hoped that this would expedite the proposed peace talks between the NDFB and the Government of India. The NDFB top rebel was arrested in Bangladesh in 2010 and was subsequently handed over to the Indian authorities.
