In yet another mishap involving an Indian Naval ship, four persons — two sailors and two civilians — were rushed to a nearby dispensary on Friday, after a suspected fire on board INS Ganga which was undergoing routine maintenance and refit at the Naval Dockyard here.
“At 11.15 am, a loud noise was heard in the boiler room of INS Ganga when the ship was in dry-dock undergoing repairs and refit. The loud noise was possibly due to gas accumulation. There has been no fire or any damage to any equipment in the ship,” a Navy spokesperson said.
“Two sailors and two civilian dockyard workers were taken to hospital, only for precautionary checkup and have been immediately discharged. The situation is normal, “the spokesperson added.
INS Ganga had been deployed as a patrolling vessel in the Gulf of Eden in 2012 to protect the marine jurisdiction from the Somali pirates.
