Former Samajwadi Party MP from Machlisaher, Chandra Nath Singh was detained after a woman co-passenger accused him of misbehaviour on board the Delhi-bound Padmawat Express on Sunday night.

The SP leader was released after several hours after the women withdrew her complaint saying that she does not want action.

As per reports, lakshmi (name changed) was travelling in first-class compartment of Delhi-bound Padmawat Express objected when the SP leader and party candidate for next lok Sabha polls from Pratapgarh allegedly misbehaved with her late Sunday night.

The woman travelling from Pratapgarh raised objections at the lucknow station itself but no one took cognisance. When the SP leader continued to act fresh, the woman claimed to have lodged a strong protest with the cops of the Government Railway Police (GRP) forcing them to stop the train at Shahjahenpur railway

station.

When some other passengers also joined lakshmi and demanded action, the cops who were initially hesitant to act, registered a case in this regard and detained Chandra Nath Singh. The woman later re-boarded the train to proceed to New Delhi.

Singh denied any misbehaviour on his part and said that he was merely looking at her when she suddenly started shouting levelling the charges.  He claimed that he fell from his berth as the train applied brakes and there was no malafide intent to trouble

the woman.

However by Monday afternoon, lakshmi reportedly told the GRP cops over telephone that she did not want any further action in the matter and wanted to withdraw her report.

DIG (Railways) lucknow, BD Paulson said that the complainant faxed a communique in this regard to the GRP at Shahjahenpur. After her request, Chandra Nath Singh was released.
