Mumbai’s former Sheriff and founder of Giants International Nana Mansinh Chudasama, known for his witty “Talk of the Town” banners along Marine Drive in south Mumbai, died here on Sunday, following brief illness.
Chudasama, better known in the recent years as the father of fashion designer-turned-BJP spokesperson Shaina NC, was 86.
Chudasama, who through his thought-provoking banners had earned sobriquets of being the "conscience keeper of Mumbai" and "voice of the common man", had over the years penned hundreds of banners on topical issues of public importance.
Put up at a vantage “Talk of the Town” point along the Marine Drive, his banners would draw the attention of the office goers in the late seventies eighties, nineties and even 2000s. A compilation of 500 such witty banners was brought out in the form of a book in 2010.
Chudasama, whom many Mumbaikars would call as Mumbai’s original “tweeter”, had come up several eye-catching banners like “Idiot: Man who did not vote”, “Let Your never die, Donate Eyes” , “Indrani Saga: Reality Makes Fiction Fake”, “Promoting Marathi Welcomed, Diktat Not Welcomed” , “We Prayed for Rains, Rains Gave us Potholes. God now save us from Potholes”, “PM in Japan, Soon we shall have pure Gangajal”, “Our Cricket Team Tests Nation’s Patience”. “Tsunami of Corruption: Only God Can Save Us”, “Jai Hind, Jai Modi”, “Small Cabinet, let’s hope for big impact” and “Football made Brazil, Zinta made cricket”.
