The BJP in Kerala suffered an embarrassment on Thursday as the Police registered a case against former Mizoram Governor Kummanam Rajasekharan for cheating and breach of trust. The case has been registered following a complaint by C R Harikrishnan of Aranmula that he was cheated of Rs 28.75 lakh by Rajasekharan and five others offering partnership in a company manufacturing plastic-free banners with a mixture of paper and cotton.
The complainant alleged that Praveen, who was the private secretary to Rajasekharan while the latter was the Governor of Mizoram, took the money from him. Harikrishnan said in his complaint that he decided to part with the money at the instance of Rajasekharan who encouraged him to invest in the company.
There are nine persons inclusing Rajasekharan and Praveen who have been listed as accused in the case.
Rajasekharan termed the case as an act of victimisation and vendetta. “I do not know anything about the financial dealings though I had told that the company was a good venture,” he told reporters.
A section of the BJP leaders in Kerala are of the view that this police complaint was part of a move by the other group in the party which is out to discredit Rajasekharan.
