Vanzara, one of Gujarat’s most controversial police officers, is set to walk out of Sabarmati Central jail on Wednesday in the 2004 killing of college student Ishrat Jahan.
He was arrested on April 24, 2007 and sent to the jail for his alleged involvement in the two encounter cases — Ishrat Jahan and Soharbuddin encounter cases. However, recently Mumbai CBI court as well as Ahmedabad CBI court has granted bails to him in both the encounter cases in a span of almost six months.
Vanzara was granted bail by Mumbai CBI court in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter killing case of 2005 in September. He has been in an Ahmedabad jail for seven years. On February 5, 2015, the Ahmedabad CBI court granted bail to him.
The entire legal procedure will take time of three to four days for the completion. During his seven years of prison, Vanzara also retired from his service. Though Vanzara would be able to come out of jail on February 18th, but he will not be able to stay in Gujarat as the Ahmedabad CBI court has in its bail order asked him to stay outside the Gujarat.
As the Mumbai court has in its bail order asked Vanzara to remain present in the court once every week, Vanzara is likely to move to Mumbai after he will come out of the Sabarmati Central Jail. Besides, he will also have to come to Gujarat every Saturday as Ahmedabad CBI court in his bail order asked him to remain present before the court on every Saturday.
