The Forest Department is still trying to track the killer of the woman in Kalagarh dam colony inside Corbett tiger reserve. Officials state that it is yet to be ascertained whether the woman was killed by the man-eater tigress which had killed six people in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh.
The failure to ascertain the identity of this killer has raised questions about the level of tracking and identification skills of the Forest Department because though the man-eater big cat has killed at least six people since December 27, last year, the authorities are yet to even identify the animal and are calling it a tigress simply on the basis of pug marks found near the bodies of humans killed. It is also being said that the left hind limb of the man-eater is broken but this too is yet to be confirmed.
Principal chief conservator of forests, Dr Raghu Bir Singh Rawat said that about 95 department staff have been deployed and put on alert. They have been provided necessary equipment including tranquiliser guns in case they encounter the man-eater.
The chief conservator of forests Administration and Intelligence, SK Dutt said that attempts are being made to track killer of the woman at Kalagarh. The identity of the killer is yet to be ascertained, he added.
