The much-awaited report of the judicial enquiry commission into the Forbesganj firing, which had claimed four lives in 2011, was tabled in the Bihar Assembly on Monday, the last day of the over-a-month-long Budget Session.
The commission headed by retired judge Madhvendra Saran has indicted then DM of Araria M Sarvanan and SHO of Forbesganj police station Anil Kumar Gupta for their negligence. About Sarvanan, a 1986-batch Bihar cadre IAS officer who is now on central deputation, the report said, “There is nothing to indicate that he took any personal interest in resolving the dispute….he did not care to solve the road dispute problem at his level ….. he put the pressure upon the SDO for getting the boundary wall constructed without taking any step for solving the dispute between the parties.”
The report however, absolved then Araria SP Garima Mallick and noted that she tried to control the situation to the best of her administrative capacity. The commission accused total intelligence failure in the matter.
