On the last day of the first phase of the Budget session, the Government on Wednesday maintained that it has been “the most significant” since the assumption of the office by the BJP at the Centre with eight Bills passed by both the Houses of Parliament including the important Real Estate regulation Bill.
“The session saw Rajya Sabha witnessing a rare occasion of the Opposition and treasury benches giving credit to each other for introducing and piloting the real estate Bill”, said Parliamentary affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu on the conclusion of the first phase of the Budget Session. The session happened in the backdrop of increased public and political demand for a production session after two preceding sessions yielded little productive business.
Naidu said both the Houses have passed the Motion of thanks to the President for his address to both the Houses of Parliament. He said besides real estate Bill, election laws (amendment) Bill, the carriage by air Bill and Bill regarding anomalies in the salaries and allowances of judges was passed.
The Minister said all the issues including that relating to JNU and Hyderabad universities were debated and moved ahead with other business in both the Houses. “I always believe in this principle: I propose, you oppose, let the House dispose”, he said.
Naidu said protests by Opposition members, particularly by the Congress, on not giving special status to Andhra Pradesh does not hold good as it was not part of the bill and went on to say that one of the Congress leader had even opposed it.
He said the session witnessed the lower House passed the Aadhaar (targeted delivery of financial and other subsidies, benefits and services bill) Bill, 2016.
During the session RS cleared nine Bills and the lok Sabha passed nine Bills. Both the houses cleared eight Bills.
