FIR sought against DGP for shielding drug trade in Goa

A legislative committee formed to look into the issues arising out of the infamous police-drug peddler-politician nexus has sought that a FIR be lodged against the Director General of Police (DGP) for his inaction, despite being ‘fully aware’ of the drug trade.

The committee headed by controversial legislator Francisco Pacheco, known as Mickky, which submitted its report and tabled it in the house, nearly one year after it was formed has also recommended that former Home Minister Ravi Naik and his son be booked after a probe as there was initial evidence to implicate them.

“Besides the ongoing departmental and other investigations/enquiries against the police officers, a fresh FIR may be filed against the DGP and other police officers in the light of the findings of this committee and the investigations and other actions may be fast tracked,” the report said.

“There is more than reasonable doubt that DGP Kishen Kumar was fully aware of the happenings, past and present in the police force with regard to drug trade,” it also says.

He committee also implicated DGP Kishen Kumar for refusing to depose before them in the various settings that are being held by the committee.

“Having established the fact that Kishen Kumar, the DGP had committed gross contempt of the committee by not heeding the summons of the committee to attend its sittings and refusing to part with critical information to the committee,” the report further said.

The committee’s report which was tabled on the floor of the State legislative Assembly on Wednesday also recommended criminal action against former Home Minister Ravi Naik and his son Roy, who the report claimed was linked to narcotics trade in Goa.

“The then Home Minister of Goa, closed his eyes to the drug trade and drug mafia with whom his son Roy Naik was fearlessly engaging himself for his individual benefits as well as his father’s and others’ common benefits,” the Committee said adding that Ravi had ‘closed his eyes’ to the drug trade which made it as big as it is.

Among the action suggested against Ravi’s expulsion from the State legislative Assembly should be from back date and withdraw his salaries and allowances drawn by him in the past. The report also claimed that there was enough to “establish the collusion” between police and security agencies, both State and Central for promoting drug trade and mafia.
